Fallout:Equestria - Dust Jackets by Whatpayne Fallout:Equestria - Dust Jackets by Whatpayne
Dust Jackets made for the limited printing run of the famous Fallout:Equestria fanfic book series.

Made in collaboration with :icondragmaister-fin: who provided few vectors and some excellent insight during the project.

You can find these covers at the book.fallout-equestria.com forums in this thread .

Any chance you could link me a download of the covers? I went to the website and thread post and found the Dropbox link, but it appears to be broken as it just takes me to the derpy.me site...

I too wish there was a download for these specific dust covers. Out of the ones I've seen, these are the only ones I am in love with.

Broke my heart to see the Dropbox link broken on the official Fallout Equestria forums...

I would love to see an upload to DA or even another Dropbox upload for these templates.

The books are no longer for sale. They were a while back, but only to a  handful of people. They sold for about $80 USD, and Kkat didn't make a profit on the books, so they come without a grammar check. The mistakes that are in the document version, are in the hard-back copies. I've been looking into making my own hardback set on my own. Print out the stories onto paper, then put them all together in book form, then bind them all in hard back cases, just like the five volumes seen above. ^_^ it'll be a lot of work, but it will be a labor of love of a great story. ^_^

Maybe you can't fully awnser this but isn't this crossing some sort of copywrite somewhere? Fallout is owned by Bethesda right? And MLP by Hasbro. Can't they jump on the people who print these books and sue them? Since they are making money off of their names?

Well, the whole legal aspect of this matter is quite hazy and convoluted to be honest. When it comes to the matter on derivative work of existing intellectual property there are no clear cut rules in place. But basically in a nutshell the answer is following:
"No, as long as no profits are made by anyone and the print(s) are one off short runs intended for personal use/collections only."
The people who made these books did not make any money off these. Only profiteers were the printing company tasked to print these books, and the post service that shipped them to me. And in that case you are right, if they were to make any money off these, then it would be illegal and they could be sued. Now of course that's the extreme case. Most likely they would receive cease-and-desist letter first, and only after that if they were to still continue their business, they would be sued.
(Know here that I'm not that familiar with United States laws regarding the matter... But I believe that's pretty much how it goes.)

But that's if someone reports them in the first place right? I doubt Hasbro or Bethesda will go looking for this.

i agree, but hasbro been a little lack in the copyright department, u dont see the shirt companies paying anything or the plush doll makers so as long as they dont get too big it should be alright

But making money off of their characters...that has to fall somewhere in the illegal stuff. But forgetting Hasbro for a moment (which is odd they wouldn't go after these guys since they take down episodes people put up on youtube) what about Bethesda? They have Fallout in their title and use stuff that shows up in their games, or at least stuff that is very close to the stuff in their games. Like raiders..pipbucks...stables.

u also got to figure that stomping on the little guys would be bad press for the company, they wouldn't break a couple thousand with the royalitys so not worth it to get the lawyers involve. now if fallout equestia hit the normal book market then there would be problems.

If it hit the normal book market maybe it would drop from its outrageous price. It's like what 85 bucks for what is basicly free to read online.

Personally I don't believe that 5 books of high quality and limited printing for 85$ is especially outrageous. In fact, I believe that it is quite reasonable. Sure it depends on whether you like the story enough to be willing to pay that much, and if you are a big enough fan to be looking for printed copies, chances are that you would.

As for that about copyright, Hasbro has been really lenient when it comes to MLP. Sure, they have taken down a couple of YouTube videos here and a couple of fan projects there, but all in all they haven't really been too overprotective over their IP. The few times I have heard that Hasbro has taken down something MLP related from the internet has been because of a clause in the copyright act which states that you lose the copyright to a certain product if you don't do everything in your power to keep others from using it. (I.E. creating fan games, videos or novels.)

Furthermore, even if Hasbro wanted to sue the people behind the project, they couldn't because no one is making money due to their intellectual property. The printers merely make money for printing and selling the books, not their contents, the post only makes money from shipping the books and the heads behind the project makes no money from it at all.

Yeah, that is a dumb typo I did not notice before I rushed these to printer. If you are interested of printing them out yourself worry not. It's quite properly written in the cover .pdf's I have made available at the forums.

Well, they are planning of doing another printing run in near future. Head to the forums and check it out if you're interested, link in description...
Apparently it's going to be a small ~300 copy run (close to 1000 people have shown their interest after the initial first run) so you should keep close eye to the forums and sign yourself in as soon as sign in opens up.
