Luna blindbag Custom by Whatpayne Luna blindbag Custom by Whatpayne
MLP:FIM custom blindbag luna toy

My first proper custom-toy. Spent quite a few hours on this one... Pretty extensive job: I stripped the model down to it's basics. Removed all "extra" stuff (like mane and tail). Then I sculpted most of the new stuff you see, Luna's mane, tail, muzzle, horn, crown, neck legs, etc. After that I sanded, painted and detailed it. And finally finished all off with light spray of acrylic clear varnish.

Took few weeks to finish (of which about few were wasted playing Skyrim).

On the bottom you see comparison image with stock unmodified Twilight. The same body model I used with Luna.

NOTICE: I am selling this figure in ebay: [link] Limited time offer. :3 Sold.

I use sharp wood carving detail chisel and/or a small pocket knife. The plastic the figures are quite soft so you can easily just push the blade through (no sawing motion needed).

Well it's not that difficult... You just have to see you don't cut too much away. =p
Easier to chisel little at a time away, than to cut whole chunks immediately.
(And it helps when you have modeling paste to "un-do" the damages.)

Not much.
Mostly stuff for my own amusement. I have painted my Rainbow Dash's mane to right color pattern, also I have sculpted new mane for Fluttershy since original is just Dash recolor which looked quite bad... But that's about it, if not counting some older other non-pony figures.

But yeah, this is my first proper custom as of now. Planning to do few more in future. =p

I'm getting ready to do the same thing for my wave-4 "glittery" Fluttershy. What material did you use for the mane work on Luna? Just Sculpey, or something different?

It was 2-part epoxy sculpt called "FIXIT"... I mainly bought it b/c you get nice big chunk for low price. Don't waste your money on those miniature sculpting stuff (those are a ripoff).
Sculpey, I don't think you'd want to use that cause it requires heat to harden (heat+plastic does not go well together).

Thanks, I'll look into finding some of that too. I've seen a few people post good results here with sculpey, with the caveat that they only heat the oven to 1/2 of the recommended temperature and just let it bake a bit longer.

'course the mane here on Luna looks even better than any of the sculpey work I've seen, so I'll def look for some of this Fixit stuff first. ;)

Sounds great :D Well, if this is your first "proper" one, then I wonder what will come of you D: Because that Luna is simply stunning. One of the best customized figurines I've seen.
